14 Cute Fall Outfits For 2023
After spending six weeks straight reluctantly wearing sweatpants in the spring when I would have normally been leaning into new summer styles, I’m personally very excited about fashion again. Just because I may not be wearing them to the usual after work events and coffee meetings doesn’t mean you won’t catch me stepping out in some cute fall outfits. Which brings up the question: what should I wear for fall 2020?
I wanted to gather some of my no-fail fall outfit formulas for when you’re not sure what to wear and you’re looking for a step up above the same skinny jeans and sweater again. Of course, these outfits shown below are from previous seasons and you’ll want to accessorize with a mask when you leave the house.
One common theme with these fall outfit ideas is that you’ll see me wearing black boots with many of them and I truly believe that the right pair of black boots can take you all throughout fall and winter. Some of my favorite black boots are from Zara and & Other Stories so definitely check them out if you’re in the market for a new pair, if for no other reason than that you made it to September of this never-ending year and you deserve some cute shoes just because.
Since we didn’t have as many New York Fashion Week presentations to inspire fall fashion trends, I’m taking this opportunity to dig back in the blog archives of season’s past and come up with a list of fall fashion trends that are evergreen from some of my all-time favorite autumn outfits.
1. A lace blouse and straight-leg jeans
I love the simplicity of the proportions here and having the straight leg jeans over the perfect patent leather boots makes the outfit feel really modern.
2. A striped sweater and a denim mini skirt
Denim mini skirts are an autumn secret weapon that I always forget about but they’re the perfect thing to layer with knee socks and sweaters.
3. A leather jacket and black skinny jeans
For a classic NYC take on your favorite fall outfits try out a leather jacket and your favorite pair of black skinnies.
4. Turtleneck sweater and wide-leg trousers
For days that start to get cooler with no warning this is a great outfit combo to turn to.
5. Mini dress with knee-high socks
Grab a cardigan for a cooler fall day or head to an orchard on a sunny day in this outfit as is.
6. Maxi dress with sneakers
Sneakers add that instant cool factor to any outfit so take something that feels really polished and sophisticated and edge it up with sneakers.
7. 3/4 sleeve dress with fishnet tights
I forgot all about this outfit and now I can’t stop thinking about it. Love the pleats against the pattern of the fishnet tights.
8. Flowy blouse and cropped jeans
Cropped jeans are great for this time of year but once you get to mid-October you’ll likely want to trade them in for full-length options.
9. Blazer and flare pants
Something about the super tailored blazer and pants just made this outfit feel particularly effortless. If you have flare jeans or bell bottoms you can replicate this effect too.
10. Layered camisole tucked into jeans
One of my all-time favorite fall layering tricks is to layer a thin black or white long sleeve top underneath your favorite camisoles.
11. Plaid trousers and a plain top
These Clueless trousers really are the coolest. The beret and sunglasses added extra edge.
12. Mini dress and knee-high boots
I was on a mission to make this leather mini dress sophisticated and I think I nailed it with the mesh turtleneck and the knee-high boots.
13. Sheer blouse and black skinny jeans
Play with cutouts and layers by grabbing a sheer blouse and letting it cascade over the top of your jeans.
14. Cropped sweater and high-waisted jeans
Okay I’ll admit I was cold when I shot these and cropped sweaters are a little hard to pull off, but if you balance it with high-waisted jeans or a skirt you can definitely pull it off.
